Booking a safari to Africa

We speak with all guests who are considering travel to Africa. With such a wide variety of safari and touring options available — many of which are not on our website — everything is tailored to your personal interests, travel style, and budget comfort zone.

You’ll have the freedom to travel at your own pace and stay in places that genuinely suit you.

Why People Come to Us (and what we help with)

Most people who contact us are excited… but also a little apprehensive — which is completely normal.

They’re often:

  • worried about making poorly informed safari decisions
  • overwhelmed by the sheer number of options, especially when everything online sounds “equally amazing”
  • concerned that a once-in-a-lifetime trip might not live up to expectations if the wrong choices are made

These are conversations we have every day — and the solutions are always tailored to each guest.

How the Planning Process Works (step-by-step)

The process varies slightly for everyone, but it generally looks like this:

1. Start the conversation

You can complete our enquiry Form or book a time to speak with us

From there, we’ll connect in whatever way suits you best — phone, video call, or email.

To get started, we’ll ask for:

  • your budget comfort zone (even a broad range is helpful)
  • your travel dates (or a date range)
  • who’s travelling (adults/children and ages)
  • a few “must-haves” (and any “definitely nots”)

2. The chat — tell us what you want (even if you’re unsure)

Even if your plans are still a bit unclear, a quick conversation can really help shape things.

We’ll talk through where you’d like to go, your accommodation preferences, how active you want to be, any special interests, how you’d like to get around, and the kind of memories you’re hoping to take home.

And yes — we do ask a lot of questions!

If you’re not sure where to start, it helps to tell us:

  • your preferred level of comfort
  • your travel month(s)
  • your top 2–3 priorities (wildlife, scenery, photography, family-friendly, romance, beaches, etc.)

3. Your safari proposal

Once you’ve paid our professional fee (fully refundable upon booking), and we’ve had our initial conversations, we’ll have a clear sense of what you’re looking for.

We then narrow down the many options and present a tailored proposal — often within 24 hours — usually in the form of a digital itinerary.

This will include:

  • costs
  • a suggested route and pacing
  • recommended camps or lodges, along with why we feel they are a good fit

4. Budget alignment (“the money chat”)

We begin discussing budget early on, as it plays an important role in shaping the itinerary.

We understand this can feel tricky — especially if you’re not sure what a safari typically costs — but even a broad range helps us design something that’s realistic and aligned.

We approach this in a practical and supportive way:

  • if your wish list and budget don’t quite align, we’ll explain why
  • we’ll suggest smart ways to adjust (season, routing, style of travel, or accommodation mix)
  • if appropriate, we may also suggest upgrades to enhance the overall experience

Pro tip:

Having a budget-range actually helps us be more creative in designing the best possible safari for you.

5. Refine until it feels just right

Most itineraries go through a couple of refinements. We may not get everything perfect on the first draft — but it usually gets the ideas flowing.

We adjust pacing, switch areas, swap camps, and fine-tune experiences until everything feels right for you.

We’ll also talk through activities — some may be included, while others can remain flexible for you to decide on during your trip.

At a certain point, we may begin holding space for you. This is important, as safari camps are small and availability can be limited.

Some guests enjoy being very involved in the planning process, while others prefer to leave more of it to us — we’re comfortable with both.

And of course, you can come back to us with changes at any stage. We’ll keep refining until you’re completely happy.

6. Then book

When you’re ready to proceed, you simply complete our booking form and pay the deposit. We then secure all arrangements, and your safari is officially underway.

You may still choose to make small adjustments — adding an extra night, upgrading (or occasionally downgrading) accommodation — and we’ll guide you through those final touches.
