Zanzibar

For an exotic African island experience with a difference, you cannot go wrong with a Zanzibar.  Zanzibar beach holidays combine laid-back beach accommodation with plenty of activities and superb locations to offer a culturally rich but super-relaxed vacation.

Resting approximately 40 km from the Tanzanian coast, this idyllic archipelago consists of Zanzibar and Pemba islands as well as numerous smaller islets.  Zanzibar Island is characterised by exquisite white sand Zanzibar beach fringed by palm trees and lapped by turquoise waters lined with coral reefs brimming with an abundance of exotic marine life. This underwater paradise is a mecca for watersport enthusiasts who flock here for excellent scuba diving, snorkelling, deep-sea fishing, kayaking, kitesurfing, and sailing on traditional dhows.

The island’s capital, Zanzibar Town, is a hive of activity. This honeypot of local culture attracts tourists into its central ‘Stone Town’, (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) a myriad of narrow streets where travellers explore the town’s compelling architecture, haggle at market stalls, and learn about the island’s fascinating history. A trip to the island is not complete without a night in Stone Town to appreciate the importance of this little place.

For the best variety, the ultimate Zanzibar beach add-on includes a couple of nights in Stone Town, followed by a beach resort in the north, north-east or east of the island.

Why we love Zanzibar

Best time to visit Zanzibar

The dry season, from June to October, is the best time to visit Zanzibar. This also corresponds with Tanzania's peak safari season, making the Zanzibar a popular pre-safari destination. Nonetheless, because of its consistent sunlight and mild Zanzibar weather, this tropical island is ideal for visiting most of the year.
