11-day Untold Namibia Safari

From:

NZD0per person sharing*

The Namibia Untold Safari offers you the chance to experience this magnificent and memorable country in a very personal way. Your professional and experienced safari guide will enhance your enjoyment of this unique country by making it a fascinating and stress-free journey of discovery amidst very dramatic scenery. The knowledge, experience, and character of our guides are critical to a successful safari, which is why we ensure that they are both personable and very professional. Your guide will have an intimate knowledge of each area and camp/lodge that you visit, allowing him to share local insights and highlights whilst adding continuity and depth to your safari. Our guides know exactly what an immersive and life-enriching journey is all about. All are highly experienced, and each has a specific area of expertise. They therefore possess the breadth and depth of knowledge to allow them to answer questions and satisfy the interests of each of our guests. The presence and company of your naturalist guide will make your safari an experience of a lifetime!

The camps and areas visited on this safari offer a truly immersive, remote, and largely private experience with the emphasis being on the experiential aspect, allowing you to go back to the roots of safari, to touch, to smell, to feel and to experience the wild with your feet firmly in the dust that covers Africa. You will also have first hand experience of the impact that these camps have on the areas in which they are located, and to see some of Namibiaโ€™s successful conservation initiatives, including rhino conservation, community empowerment and the rewilding and protecting of desert landscapes. You will learn more about the ongoing research and conservation projects happening on the Etosha Heights Reserve, and you will also embark on a rhino activity supported by Save The Rhino Trust. In the latter, you will accompany Rhino Rangers searching for some of the last free-roaming black rhino population in Namibia Untold. Namibia is home to the only desert-adapted black rhinoceros population that remains in the wild, unfenced and outside reserves, occupying an arid range in the western Kaokoveld.

You end your safari with a stay at a desert retreat on the Namib Tsaris Conservancy, which was founded in 2010, serving as a natural buffer from the harshest desert conditions and a refuge that is vital to wildlife through the dry season. Twelve years of intensive work to reverse sixty years of inappropriate farming practices, including the removal of 89 km of internal fencing, the installation of wildlife watering points, the improvement of road networks, the rehabilitation of land and the reintroduction of wildlife that historically occurred here has resulted in one of the most picturesque and ecologically sound tracts of land in the area.

When traveling on our scheduled group safaris, you will meet up with other guests from different parts of the world and of various ages. To get the most out of your safari experience co-operation and harmony between you and your fellow guests is essential.

Day 4 – Damaraland

This morning after breakfast you will continue your safari to the heart of Namibia, Damaraland, traveling through farmlands and the small towns. Damaraland is typified by displays of colour, and magnificent table topped mountains, rock formations and bizarre-looking vegetation. The present-day landscape has been formed by the erosion of wind, water and geological forces which have formed rolling hills, dunes, gravel plains and ancient river terraces. It is the variety and loneliness of the area as well as the scenic splendour which will reward and astound you, giving one an authentic understanding of the word ‘wilderness’. You enjoy a delicious Magic Box picnic en route and arrive in time in time to enjoy fireside sundowners at Camp Doros. Please note that today is a long day of travelling, rewarded with another 3 night stay at your next camp.

Doros Joint Management Area:ย ย The Doros Joint Management Areaย is largely sparse semi-arid mountainous savanna, with wooded ephemeral river valleys separating hills and plains, and it boasts some of the most magnificent views in Damaraland. As it has a number of natural springs providing water throughout the year for desert-adapted wildlife, the area is home to desert-adapted Elephant, black Rhino and general plains game, including Kudu, Giraffe, Springbok, Oryx, Klipspringer and Steenbok, as well as predators such as Cheetah, Leopard, spotted and brown Hyena.

Day 5 – Damaraland

Today you will spend an exciting and memorable morning out rhino searching with the assistance of local trackers. It is worth noting that these black rhino form part of one of the only free-roaming black rhino populations in Africa and searching for animals in an unfenced and uninhibited environment is an absolute privilege. You will return to camp for a freshly prepared lunch and with time to relax at camp during the heat of the day. Later in the afternoon you head out again for a scenic nature drive or walk to explore this vast and astounding ecosystem.

Camp Doros works together with the Save the Rhino Trust (SRT) – an NGO that has been instrumental in the preservation of the rare, endangered, desert adapted black rhino. Having barely survived the slaughter in many parts of Africa during the ’80s and ’90s, the black rhino population of Namibia increased substantially since the formation of SRT.

Day 6 – Damaraland

Today you continue your adventures exploring Damaraland, enjoying the freedom to discover the fascinating landscapes with your private naturalist guide both by vehicle and on foot. Damaraland is a surprising refuge for desert adapted wildlife that may include elephant, giraffe, oryx, springbok and even some predators such as lion. However, as with any wildlife sightings in Namibia, this depends on many factors including seasonality so specific sightings are never guaranteed.

The wildlife roams large tracks of unfenced desert landscapes and finding game can be challenging, but this is all part of the adventure of exploring this wild untouched gem of Namibia. Todayโ€™s focus will be largely on searching for the elusive desert adapted elephants in the ephemeral river systems, an activity which will mean spending most of the day out. Your guide will take along a delicious picnic lunch and you will return to camp in the late afternoon.

Day 7 – Swakopmund

After an early breakfast the drive today takes you south past Namibiaโ€™s highest mountain, the Brandberg which peaks at 2,573m above sea level, and west to meet the coast at Henties Bay. You then continue south to the coastal town of Swakopmund, where you can enjoy the pleasant seaside location and cooler coastal air for the night.ย You stay on the eastern outskirts of the town, overlooking the Swakop River valley and desolate desert dune landscapes. Tonight, includes dinner at a popular restaurant which specialises in locally harvested fresh seafood as well as other local and international dishes.

Day 8 – Sossusvlei

After an early breakfast you depart on a fascinating drive which takes you south-east through awesome and ever-changing desert landscapes via the impressive Gaub and Kuiseb canyons to meet the dunes at the settlement of Solitaire. A picnic lunch will be had en route and you will continue onto the Namib Tsaris Conservancy, where you will spend your final two nights of your safari at Camp Sossus. Arrival should be in the mid to late afternoon with enough time to acquaint yourself with the camp and enjoy a hot bucket shower before dinner.

Day 9 – Sossusvlei

This morning you will rise early for a magical excursion into the Namib Naukluft National Park, entering the Park gates at sunrise to capture the dunes whilst the light is soft and shadows accentuate their towering shapes and curves. This area boasts some of the highest free-standing sand dunes in the world. Your guide will give you an insight on the formation of the Namib Desert and its myriad of fascinating creatures and plants that have adapted to survive these harsh environs. Once you have explored the areas around Sossusvlei and Deadvlei to your hearts content you can enjoy a picnic in the shade of a camel thorn tree. Return to Camp Sossus in the early afternoon for a late lunch. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure (from experience, this is usually welcomed after an exhilarating morning in the dunes) or can be spent on a guided activity within the nature reserve.

We recently returned from a visit to Victoria Falls and a Botswana safari. All went very smoothly, and we got to view all the animals we had hoped to see. We had a good bunch of fellow travellers, and a great guide who with his awesome team looked after us very well. Thank you Claire for arranging our African adventure - an experience that will remain with us forever.

It was a dream dealing with Claire at African Safaris Ltd. She was across all the details and we were fully informed and prepared for our Transkalahari Adventure from Capetown to Victoria Falls, unlike most other participants who had booked through traditional travel agents. This meant we had optional activities locked in and prepaid and all our visas sorted in advance. We were a family group of four adults from New Zealand and it was our first time in southern Africa. We chose the Transkalahari Adventure to get a range of experiences and landscapes as well as game drives and river cruises in national parks. A full on safari is not ideal for everyone and this was the perfect solution, enjoyed by all of us. We visited Table Mountain, Cape of Good Hope, Augrabies Falls, Kgadigali Transfrontier Park, Fish River Canyon (2nd largest in the world), Sussosvlei and Deadvlei, Swakopmund, Etosha NP, Okavango Delta, Chobe NP and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Thanks to Claire for all her help.

My wife and I booked a 10 day Safari trip from in Southern Africa for our honeymoon. Every detail of the trip was lovely and ran smoothly. Our accommodations were excellent and we felt very spoilt in the best way possible. I am one to normally book all details of a trip myself but in this case having a specialized travel agent makes all the difference. I never would have been able to book such an amazing and smooth trip on my own. A must go to for booking a Safari Holiday.

Claire organised a trip of a lifetime! The experience of Africa is one Iโ€™ll never forget. Claire made sure she understood our requirements and took the time to quote different options which were thorough. Once we decided she organised everything and took the hassle away from doing it yourself. If anyone knows Africa itโ€™s Claire! The whole trip was seamless and easy from airport transfers, accommodation to safari camps and the flights in between. We started in Zimbabwe Vic Falls and finished in the Okavango Delta. It was a well thought out trip with a range of everything from popular game drives with expert rangers, mokoro trips and options to do boat cruises. We got to see everything we dreamed of and more. I would highly recommend using Claire for any Safari bookings :)

The camps were incredibly comfortable and the wildlife so much better than we expected. We were amazed how close we got and the variety of animals that we saw. Claire's expertise was so hugely appreciated. We really didn't know where to start, and her advice was invaluable. Totally recommend!

Our safari adventure is over and we have had the most marvellous time. From the moment we landed in Victoria Falls Claireโ€™s expertise in safari organisation kicked in and was faultless. It was the most amazing travel experience of our lives. The animals, the people, the scenery, the food, the quality of the guides, the standard of the camps we stayed in - particularly Kanana Camp - all contributed to an outstanding experience. Being accommodated within a concession area made a huge difference to the experience. It was a big bucket list ticket for the 4 of us. Claire - we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your guidance, for your African knowledge, your connections and all the helpful information you have compiled and shared with us as travellers. An epic adventure in Africa. I very much appreciated Claire's knowledge and the pre trip information provided which meant smooth sailing through borders and no snags to take the gloss off the experience. Special moments for me included two days "in the bush" in the Okavango Delta and seeing a 4-5 day old baby elephant on my last day. Lots of great experiences and memories

Claire at African Safaris arranged a comprehensive itinerary for our group of two couples after thoroughly researching our expectations. Accommodation included Lodges, Mobile Safari, a houseboat on The Chobe River and a hotel, the latter in Vic Falls. Our main destination was Botswana where our expert guides ensured that we saw a multitude of game including lions, cheetah, leopards, hippo, elephants, giraffe, birds etc. We used Mack Air for internal flights and the various elements flowed seamlessly together.

Our 10 day wild camping safari in Botswana was fantastic. Camping in the parks was very special as we were able to hear the lions roaring, hippos grunting and hyenas (and many other night noises!) at fairly close range, giving an element of real wilderness and adventure. Our guides were excellent - they work so hard from dawn to dark every day looking after our needs, and with a smile on their face also. We felt safe and all we needed to do for help with tents, a shower or just a cup of tea - was just to ask and it was seen to. This was our second safari with African Safaris Ltd, and quite possibly will not be the last. My husband and I are in our late 60's now, so if you are fit and healthy enough, don't let this stop you from doing the wild camping safaris! And thank you to Claire who organized the safari for us, answering all of our questions promptly and also a shout out to Philip Webb from NZ Travel Brokers who organized all of our air travel. Here are a couple of photos (so many to chose from) of our safari.

We made a last minute decision to take the safari we missed because of COVID and gave Claire a difficult brief-please find us a safari in Kruger national park in the next few months. She did a fantastic job, spending time with us to find out what we wanted. She responded well to our feedback and communication was prompt and friendly. She had everything arranged very quickly. We had a very exciting trip, saw the "big five' twice over in six days and it was the best holiday ever. We were very happy to know that she was available if we needed her. We highly recommend Claire

From the very first conversation to the final flight home, our experience with Claire at African Safaris was nothing short of exceptional. We had a dream of exploring Africa, and Claire turned it into a flawlessly executed reality. The level of detail in her planning was truly next level โ€” from immigration and border crossings to flight transfers, lodge pickups and drop-offs โ€” not a single hiccup along the way. Every step was seamless, with perfect timing and zero stress. Itโ€™s clear that Claire poured immense care and expertise into creating this journey, and we felt supported and confident every day of the trip. Africa is a wild, beautiful, and deeply soulful place โ€” one you truly need to experience for yourself. And when you do, make sure Claire is the one to help guide you there. Her knowledge, calm professionalism, and passion for what she does are bloody brilliant. We canโ€™t thank Claire enough for crafting such an unforgettable adventure. Jo & Hannaka

I enjoyed a fantastic trip with African Safari to Tanzania in February 2025. Everything went smoothly, the wildlife and cultural experiences exceeded my expectations. The accommodation was great and the tented camp was perfectly situated for maximising the wildlife experiences. My guide/driver, Erasto, was with me for the entire trip and I could not have asked for anyone better. He was considerate, knowledgeable, and attentive to my desired outcomes. He somehow always managed to put me in the perfect position to capture the many amazing photographic moments we experienced. Finally the company made sure even the smaller details that make a trip run smoothly were not neglected. For example they provided an unexpected lunch stop to fill in time before my return flight home.

Claire was just fantastic in helping us make the most of our trip to Botswana and Victoria Falls. Her knowledge enabled us to make the most of our time and to see a wide variety of places from semi arid desert to water camps. Would thoroughly recommend African Safaris.

I've recently returned from a 14 day safari trip, staying at three tent camps in Kenya which was truly beyond all my expectations. Claire's initial process of talking with each prospective customer and finding out exactly what they are looking for in a safari holiday is worth gold. I had already picked out a package from African Safaris NZ website which looked ideal, but when I told Claire that wildlife photography was my main goal, she explained that there were better options available. The decision was made to go with tent camps in private conservancies and fly between each camp. The result was a trip of a lifetime that exactly suited what I was looking for. Fewer people, less restrictions for game drives and less time spent travelling between camps. I was travelling alone this time which made me a little anxious, but I needn't have worried as everything was so well organised right from being picked up at Nairobi airport and dropped back at the airport after the holiday was over. Even when the rains came early in one area and I missed my flight out due to wet track conditions around the camp, everything was organised ahead of me including new flights the following day and overnight accommodation in the national park lodge. The camps were just perfect with a mix of very comfortable accommodation, wonderful staff, great meals and all in the middle of wildlife habitat with no fences. I'll never forget all the noises at night just outside my tent, including a pride of lions which camped close by one night. The variety of wildlife was stunning including birdlife (a passion of mine) and the guides were great in getting the vehicle in the right spot for photography. Its going to take me many months to edit the photos, but that's half the fun, and the memories will remain with me forever. I highly recommend Claire if you are looking for a safari holiday that gives you what you want, rather than a package that perhaps suits others.

We have just completed another amazing trip to Africa - to Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Botswana - again organised through African Safaris Ltd. The was well organised through very reputable companies who were friendly and extremely helpful. Claire gave us lots of tips, and was able to answer questions pre- and during travel. The whole trip was extraordinary, with each country providing new experiences from the incredible animal sightings to the lovely people we met, and places visited. The accommodation and guides we had were outstanding. Our safaris in Kenya, Namibia and Botswana in particular delivered incredible experiences and we now regret that it is now all over! Claire from African Safaris helped us to plan 2 months of travel through Namibia & Botswana, with a touch of Zimbabwe and Zambia. Every day of our trip was awesome. We had brilliant guides, stayed in a range of camps (luxury to mobile tents, houseboat to bed and breakfast), and were well looked after. The food was amazing. Our whole trip was superbly organised and the transitions between camps and countries were seamless. These touches made it the easiest holiday we've ever had! The landscape we drove through, dunes we climbed, flights we took, places we stayed and wildlife experiences were beyond anything we could have imagined before we went. I absolutely recommend working with Claire to have a trip of a lifetime. We certainly did!

We loved everything about it - the staff at the camps were so welcoming and attentive; we appreciated the lovely little things they did like placing hot water bottles in our bed while we were at dinner. The food was excellent, with plenty of choice and some local specialities. The guides were so knowledgeable and taught us all so much. There was no rushing around and we could spend as much time as we wanted viewing whatever was our fancy. They also understood the lighting needs for photographers and took time manoeuvring to get the best positions. The connections were excellent (except where weather intervened - that's just Africa, nobody's fault), and the staff involved were very friendly and efficiently got us from place to place. We loved all three places (Selenkay/Amboseli, Ol Pejeta and Otare Motorogi/Masai Mara) and saw just as much in the conservancies as the adjoining national parks. The lack of crowds made wildlife viewing a more special experience and the ability to go off-road was an obvious advantage. There were so many highlights, it would be hard to single one out - however, we did see a Cheetah kill a Gazelle on the very last day thanks to the patience and intuition of our guide. We are very satisfied with our time away and would not hesitate to recommend both African Safaris and the Porini Camps. In short, thank-you Claire for all your work in setting up this amazing time. We researched many different companies and tours before selecting this one. Save yourself the time we spent and choose African Safaris! So many excellent options and Claire is so knowledgeable and provides all the information you need.

My wife and I are just back from a 28-day safari in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi. We had previously done a 16 day hosted safari in Botswana in 2019 with Claire as our 'leader', which was perfect in every aspect, and we decided then if we ever went back to Africa, we would get Claire to organise our trip. Well, the organisation was faultless, with all our accommodation and transfers working like clockwork. We had a fabulous variety of landscapes and accommodation, amazing wildlife sightings, and even after almost a month there always seemed to be something new to discover. All our guides were fabulous and it was a truly unforgettable experience. If we are ever able to go back to Africa we will certainly get Claire at African Safaris to organise it for us again. I can't recommend her any more highly.

Superb advice, practical information and hands on support all the way. Claire provided the absolutely best service throughout all the lead up to what really was the trip of a lifetime. Our safaris in Namibia and Kenya both delivered incredible experiences and our only regret is that now theyโ€™re over!

We have recently returned from our Kenya and Tanzania Safaris and are still singing the praises of the trip of a lifetime. This was our second Safari to these countries and amazingly surpassed what we thought was an unbeatable experience. Claire (and African partners) organization was outstanding with many transfers to different camps and hotels. Everything went without a hitch, no small feat given our choice of destination. We would definitely choose to use African Safaris Ltd again and highly recommend their organization.

We have no hesitation in highly recommending African Safaris Ltd โ€“ and have already done so to many of our friends who are interested in travelling to Africa. Claire quickly grasped what we were hoping for, made suggestions and came up with the perfect itinerary for what proved to be the trip of a lifetime. From the variety of locations, accommodation, pace and connections, everything went like clockwork and exceeded our expectations. We couldnโ€™t have been in better hands.

Many thanks to Claire at African Safaris Ltd for great advice and then attention to detail: My safari experience at Porini Giraffe Camp (Masai Marai Ripoi Conversancy) in Kenya exceeded expectations. The process of arrival in Nairobi, transfer to and from the camp and return to the airport was seamless and made everything very easy. Thoroughly recommend Claire and African Safaris Ltd!

We contacted Claire at African Safaris towards the end of last year requesting that she arrange a safari for us in May of this year. We were a group of four friends who have travelled extensively but this, for us, was the 'trip of a lifetime'. Whilst it was relatively short notice, Claire was able to prepare a suitable itinerary for us in Botswana, with accommodation at the level we requested. After confirmation, she then started to provide us with helpful information that we were able to use in preparation for our trip. From the time that we arrived at Victoria Falls Hotel, we had a wonderful time, moving on to our stay on the Chobe River Princess houseboat and then to our two camp stays at Splash Camp and Lagoon Camp. Our transition across border points was very well managed, with good communication and assistance, as was our transport between locations. On the houseboat and on our camp drives we were able to view the animals that we had hoped to see in close proximity, with ample time for photographing and just watching them being awesome! At all times we were looked after superbly by guides, trackers and camp staff, who all went out of their way to make it a wonderful, fun and informative experience for us. Thank you Claire for the trip you arranged for us. The memories will remain for a lifetime.
