8-day Tanzania Safari – Tanganyika Wilderness

Our popular 8-day Tanzania Safari, using Tanganyika Wilderness Camps will take you on an epic adventure through some of northern Tanzania’s best-known wildlife areas.  Starting in Arusha, you travel to Lake Manyara National Park, where one can enjoy its unique birdlife. The next destination is Serengeti National Park.  A UNESCO World Heritage Site the Serengeti is home to the Big 5 and world-renowned for its wildlife viewing opportunities.  Lastly, you will visit Ngorongoro Crater, a haven for wildlife located on the eastern edge of the Rift Valley, before returning to Arusha.

Arrival may be at any time on day 1. Please note that the earliest check-in at Ilboru Safari Lodge is 1400 hours.
The earliest departure from Kilimanjaro International Airport on the last day of the safari should be after 1600 hours.

Full Day by Day Itinerary


Day 1 : Arusha

Arrive Kilimanjaro Airport, where you are met and transferred to your hotel located a short distance from Arusha Town Centre.  Overnight Ilboru Safari Lodge on bed and breakfast basis


Day 2 : Lake Manyara National Park

Morning at leisure and safari briefing followed by lunch. Afternoon depart Arusha passing through the Masai Steppe filled with many picturesque African villages as well as maize, coffee and banana plantations. At the town of Makuyuni you turn North West and continue the village of Mto wa Mbu where you will find your camp ready to welcome you for your relaxing stay.  Overnight at Manyara Wildlife Safari Camp on full board basis


Day 3 : Central Serengeti

After breakfast there is a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park that returns to the lodge for lunch. Leaving Lake Manyara behind, the journey continues North West across the stunning hilly countryside of the highlands which is filled with wheat and coffee plantations, and then into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From here lie the vast plains of the Serengeti, where you begin spotting wildlife as you approach the entrance gate.  Complete the formalities and enter the park with game viewing en route to the lodge arriving for dinner.  Overnight at Kati Kati Camp on a full board basis


Day 4 : Central Serengeti

Morning and afternoon game drives in Serengeti National Park.  Overnight at Kati Kati Camp on a full board basis.


Day 5 : Karatu / Ngorongoro

After breakfast depart for Ngorongoro viewing game across the vast Serengeti plains, stopping off en route for your picnic lunch. You then continue your journey towards Ngorongoro where you pass along the rim of the crater and descend to the park gate and your lodge located in Karatu surrounded by farmland and a view of the backwall of the crater.  Overnight at Ngorongoro Farmhouse / Tloma Lodge on a full board basis.


Day 6 : Karatu / Ngorongoro

A highlight awaits you this morning as you depart to explore what is commonly referred to as the World’s largest natural wildlife arena. After breakfast, you descend with a picnic lunch through the early morning mists and 2,000 feet into the crater. Ngorongoro Crater is the World’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Due to its size and diversity, the crater floor is comprised of several distinct areas, ranging from forest, swamps, lakes and springs, to open grassland and some sandy dunes. A truly unique wildlife experience.  Return to the lodge in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 : Tarangire National Park

Departing Ngorongoro Crater after breakfast, heading south east past Lake Manyara and Mto wa Mbu village. Through the highlands and the Karatu district, viewing the scenic wheat plains and coffee plantations here before journeying down the spectacular escarpment where you turn south on to the main Arusha – Dodoma road.  Arrive at the camp for lunch and then travel a short distance to the Tarangire Park Gate where the afternoon is spent game viewing. Immerse in the views of the Tarangire River, large population of wildlife around the Silale swamps and the majestic baobab trees the park is so famous for.  Return to the camp for dinner and overnight.  Overnight at Lake Burunge Tented Camp on a full board basis.


Day 8 : Departure

Depart after breakfast and head north east to Arusha. The journey will pass through the Masai Steppe filled with many picturesque African villages as well as maize, coffee and banana plantations. On arrival in Arusha lunch is provided followed by transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport to connect international departure flight.
