We would like to share an important update regarding recent VAT changes affecting tourism services in Zimbabwe, and to outline our approach in response.
As confirmed in the 2026 National Budget, previously zero rated transfers and activities are now being standard rated at 15.5% VAT. This new tax having come into effect on 1 January 2026. VAT on accommodation has increased marginally from 15% to 15.5%. Most lodge operators are absorbing the additional 0.5% VAT on accommodation, therefore the impact of this change is felt primarily on transfers, activities and park fees.
Given the timing of this announcement and the volume of long lead international bookings already in place, African Safaris Ltd together with many operators across the industry has had to assess the practical implications carefully. This is a regulatory change beyond our control and we are focused on managing its implementation as thoughtfully and fairly as possible. Our team is currently loading the amended rates into our system.
Our approach is as follows:
• For all bookings confirmed before Friday, 16 January 2026, a VAT adjustment will need to be calculated and applied once we have updated rates from our partners.
• For all new enquiries and bookings after Friday, 16 January, 2026 if we do not have updated rates, and a VAT adjustment will also need to be applied, once we have these rates from our partners.
This approach allows us to manage the transition responsibly while minimising disruption to existing arrangements and we will be working hand in hand with you to ensure clarity throughout this process.
