The Greater Kruger lies alongside the Kruger National Park, on its western boundary adjacent to the central section of the Park.  The Greater Kruger National Park is made up of over twenty private game reserves – there are no fences between them and the Kruger National Park which means that the animals are able to roam freely.

The reserves that make up the Greater Kruger National Park include the Timbavati, the Sabi Sands, Makuya, Letaba, Balule, Klaserie, Umbabat, Manyeleti and Thornybush Reserves.  Probably the most well known is Sabi Sand Game Reserve which shares a 50-kilometre unfenced boundary with Kruger National Park and acts as a wild buffer between the national park and the unfenced private reserves of Greater Kruger.
