Lion Camp

Lion Camp is an award-winning, eco-friendly camp.  It offers a unique opportunity to take guided walks with Maasai Warriors and experience day and night game drives.  The 35,000 Olare Motorogi Conservancy, is a pristine and exclusive wilderness for wildlife conservation and low-impact tourism. The camp adheres to strict eco-friendly and responsible eco-tourism principles. There are limits on density and every tent pays to protect 700 acres of wilderness, which also helps to reduce the number of vehicles in the conservancy. The camp has a prestigious Gold Eco-rating from Eco-tourism Kenya.

Location

The camp is within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, an exclusive wildlife area adjacent to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. This location allows guests to experience exceptional wildlife viewing in a more remote and uncrowded setting than the national reserve.

Accommodation

Lion Camp offers comfortable and eco-friendly tented accommodations. With only 9 tents, they are designed to blend in with the natural surroundings while still providing modern amenities. Each tent has en-suite bathrooms and is positioned to offer privacy and stunning views of the surrounding landscape.  The tents are spacious and have private verandahs along the length of the tent, providing a secluded and private ‘space’ for you to relax and enjoy the beauty of this African wilderness.  Food is excellent, with freshly baked bread and delicious, high-quality meals prepared by the camp Chef. Activities including game drives, walks, night drives and sundowners are included in the price with transport in traditional open-sided Landrover 4-wheel drive safari vehicles. There is also the opportunity to book a Hot Air Balloon Safari.

Conservation Focus

One of the distinctive features of Lion Camp is its commitment to conservation. The camp is operated in partnership with local Maasai communities.  This ensures that the benefits of tourism are shared with the local people. In addition, the camp is involved in various conservation initiatives, including anti-poaching efforts and habitat preservation.

Low-Impact Tourism

The camp follows a low-impact tourism model, aiming to minimize its ecological footprint while providing an authentic and sustainable safari experience. This approach includes using solar power for electricity, limited vehicle movements to reduce disturbance to wildlife, and an emphasis on responsible tourism practices.

Wildlife Viewing

The Olare Motorogi Conservancy is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) and many other species. Guests at Lion Camp can enjoy game drives and guided walks led by experienced Maasai guides to explore the area’s rich biodiversity.  The area in Olare Motorogi Conservancy offers some of the best big cat viewing in Africa on classic Mara grassland. A true photographer’s paradise featuring a dedicated media tent for immediate editing of the day’s best shots.

Cultural Engagement

The camp provides opportunities for guests to engage with the local Maasai community. This might include cultural visits to nearby villages, interactions with Maasai guides, and learning about traditional Maasai customs and way of life.

Exclusive Experience

Due to its location within a private conservancy, the camp offers a more exclusive and intimate safari experience than the more heavily visited areas of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

Lion Camp is a wonderful example of a safari camp that integrates wildlife conservation, responsible tourism practices, and community involvement.  This allows guests to have a unique and eco-friendly safari experience in the iconic Maasai Mara ecosystem.
