A horseback safari in Africa is a once in a lifetime experience - but with so many to choose from you can come back again for a completely different adventure each time.
There is something quite exhilarating about riding a horse through the African bush. You feel very much a part of the rhythm of life as the impala dance around you in the dust, wildebeest snort into the wind and giraffe stride elegantly through the thorn trees.
On horseback you are higher and can go faster than when on foot, quieter than if in a 4X4 and you can often ride between herds of plains game almost unnoticed. Your guide might venture off the vehicle tracks and lead you along game paths that twist and turn through the thickets and round aardvark holes. Where the terrain allows you may pick up the pace and canter across the savannah, perhaps a herd of zebra will be just in the right spot to join in the fun and canter alongside you before they gallop off into the setting sun. After a great day in the saddle, relax with a G&T as that big orange sun drops down below the horizon.
Sitting on a horse while watching a magnificent kudu bull leap effortlessly through the bush or a family of warthog trot neatly in single file down a narrow track is something quite magical.
